Manslaughter Defence
Advice and representation for people facing an allegation of manslaughter.
Advice from the outset
A manslaughter allegation is a serious matter. Our Criminal team can advise at the police station, review the allegation and evidence, and arrange representation through the court process.
Understanding the allegation
The legal issues depend on the circumstances of the death and the basis on which the prosecution brings the case. We examine the evidence, the alleged act or omission, causation and any available defence. Advice needs to address the particular allegation rather than assume that all manslaughter cases are alike.
Preparing the defence
We take instructions, consider disclosure and identify whether expert evidence or further investigation is needed. Where the matter proceeds to court, we work with specialist barristers and explain the procedure, possible outcomes and funding arrangements.
